Hanalei is a village and census-designated place located in Kauai County, Hawaiʻi. As of the 2000 Census, the village had a total population of 478. Hanalei means "lei making" in Hawaiian. Alternatively, the name Hanalei also means crescent bay, and may be indicative of the shape of the bay.
